I designed explainer videos to support Amazon's Multimedia Device Support team using 3D motion graphics. These videos are posted to the Digital Services and Device Support page on Amazon.com. I was given 1 week to plan and design out an explainer video that was then translated to 4 other languages. This project was the first of its kind with the team as it brought a new 2D to 3D workflow which provided scalability and mitigated time needed to make revisions due to regional differences.
I worked with cross-functional team members to gather requirements for this project. A narration script was already finalized and I worked closely with my producer to see early versions of the script so I could start storyboarding. After the storyboard was approved, I began designing out the rough draft of the explainer video using Cinema 4D and Adobe After Effects. Working in 3D allowed me to model different regional sockets and plugs early on without having to spend countless hours working on them when I got to the localization phase. Designing in Cinema 4D also allowed the video to replicate the same flat, 2D look and feel by using a toon shader. Once the final video was approved in English, I was then tasked to export the same video using the finalized voice overs of 4 international languages. This new workflow made it easy to turn on and off specific 3D assets in Cinema 4D and render out the correct regional socket and plugs.
